Course Overview

Third year Imperial College mathematics students volunteer to produce mathematical topic presentations, receive science communication skills training, and present their topics to local schools and students. Recent topics have included: 'Chaos and Fractals', 'Disease Modelling', 'The 3-body problem' and 'Numbered Squares and Fermat's Last Theorem'. The sessions are in a presentation/demonstration style developed to foster an interest in mathematics in school by showing how the subject applies to real-life situations. Local schools are invited to book sessions, which normally take place on Wednesday afternoons for 30-45 minutes.

Course Aims

MathMatters is a programme aimed at inspiring students to develop an ongoing interest in Maths.

Curriculum Links

The groups are advised by a Secondary School Maths consultant to ensure the content of the course is relevant to schools' curriculums.

Pre-requisites

This course is aimed at students with an interest in A-level or Further Maths.
